The New York Yankees have given their pitcher Nestor Cortes and prospect Caleb Durbin while they added cash to it to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for their All-Star closer Devin Williams.
Devin Williams is popular for his incredible changeup known as “The Airbender” and has made history as one of baseball’s best relievers. He has emerged as the winner of the National League Rookie of the Year in the last four years and has a 1.83 ERA in his professional career.
Williams will fill in the place of the Yankees bullpen that lost major players, including Clay Holmes, to free agency when he settles in with his new team. Speculations have it that he may just stay a season with the Yankees since he will be a free agent in 2025.
The General Manager of the New York Yankees, Brian Cashman, in his statement mentioned that there have not been discussions about the extension of Williams’ contract yet.
The reason that the Brewers also agreed to trade Williams is because of money concerns, even though he played very well this year after he recovered from an injury he earlier sustained. Cortes, who used to be a former Yankees starter, moved to Milwaukee after his battles with injury and putting an end to his season with a rough World Series appearance.
A fast and versatile prospect, Caleb Durbin is included in the trade. Durbin, who is just 24 years old, is popular for his base-stealing skills and could play his MLB first game soon.
