Dan Ashworth, who is the sporting director for Manchester United, has departed the club after five months in the position.
The sporting director was officially appointed to the role on the 1st of July after spending five months at another Premier League club, his former club, Newcastle United.
Sources who are familiar with the situation revealed that his exit from the club was concluded at the end of the Premier League home loss on Saturday to Nottingham Forest.
The Athletic was the first to report Ashworth’s departure from the team on Sunday.
A statement that was signed by the club, Manchester United claimed that the decision to relieve the former sporting director was by “mutual agreement,” adding: “We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.”
Dan Ashworth was captured walking through the press conference room with the team’s chief operating officer, Collette Roche, after the home defeat against Nottingham Forest with the understanding that the journey was to a meeting where his exit from the club was being stamped.
The newly relieved sporting director, before his time at Manchester United, worked at West Bromwich Albion, the FA, and Brighton before he moved to Newcastle in 2022.
The season has not been a good one so far for the club, which led to the sacking of their former head coach, Erik ten Hag, in October after just winning three games from their first nine Premier League matches.
It was then revealed by the club that it costs them £10.4m to discharge Erik ten Hag and his staff, while the cost of paying the release clause to Ruben Amorim to replace him amounts to £11m.
