Jhon Duran Scores Winning Goal To Compound Southampton’s Woes

Jhon Duran scored his first Premier League goal after the last he scored in September to give his side, Aston Villa, their second consecutive win, adding to the relegation worries of Southampton.

Jhon Duran, a Colombian forward who usually comes in as a substitute, scored on his first start of the season, putting Aston Villa in fifth position on their Premier League table.

The team has found form in two consecutive wins after defeating both Brentford and Southampton; they had lost eight consecutive games before their win against Brentford. The team now sits two points behind Manchester City, which is in fourth place, and they will be playing against them on December 21.

Aston Villa’s coach had proposed Duran for netting his ninth goal of the season and also mentioned his tactical development and work rate.

“Fantastic, because he is helping us in everything, scoring goals, and working hard,” Emery said.

The struggling Southampton now sits at the bottom of the table, and they are right points behind leaving the relegation zone after they have conceded 12 defeats from their 15 league matches this season. Duran scored the saving goal in the 24th minute after capitalizing on a defensive error created by Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

An angry Russell Martin, Southampton’s head coach, chastised the squad’s poor defense and lack of converting good chances in the attack area.

Southampton is now the least of all the Premier League clubs this season, with the lowest goals amount, with only 11 goals scored this season. While the winner earned only their second clean sheet, with goalkeeper Emi Martinez untested throughout.
