The football season has once again ended in disappointment for the Bowling Green State University as the Falcons were thrashed 38-31 at Hancock Whitney Stadium, Mobile, Alabama, by Arkansas State in the 68 Ventures Bowl.
BGSU (7-6) was marred by penalties and special team mistakes, making it their third consecutive loss by only one score despite 479 total yards.
Arkansas State (8-5) dominated the game throughout as they took advantage of major moments, including a 15-yard penalty that extended a scoring drive and a 60-yard punt return by Courtney Jackson for a touchdown.
Zach Long, who is the kicker for the Falcon, lost three field goals, and a failed fake punt proved expensive.
Harold Fannin Jr., a star right end, gave a brilliant and record-breaking display as he secured a touchdown and 17 receptions for 213 yards and also broke FBS records for single-season receptions (112), including receiving yards (1,355) by a tight end.
Connor Bazelak, a quarterback, threw three touchdowns in the game and threw for 390 yards. BGSU was unable to correct their errors as the opposition, Arkansas State, cemented their victory with a late score despite the later efforts by BGSU, including a trick play touchdown.
