Despite topping the Group D table, Nigeria’s Super Eagles ended their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with a shocking 2-1 loss to Rwanda.
Nigeria hosted the match on Monday in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State but lost to a less-performing Rwanda team who outdid themselves on Nigeria and staged a comeback win after falling 2-1 behind.
The Nigerian side had already secured qualification for the AFCON 2025 in Morocco despite the loss, finishing in Group D with a total points of 11. Milan forward Samuel Chukwueze scored the only goal for Super Eagles in the 59th minute.
Rwanda did not waste time to recover as the team quickly scored to make it a draw through Aimable Mutinzi’s brilliant goal in the 72nd minute. About four minutes later, Imanishimwe Nshuti scored another goal for Rwanda to seal the win against the Super Eagles.
Both teams were unlucky to score a goal in the first half of the game as they lost many chances that could have given either side the lead. Super Eagles started the second half with strong momentum but their bad defense caused them the defeat.
Imanishimwe Nshuti became the hero for Rwanda helping the team to score an unforgettable win against the group leaders.
