Despite topping the Group D table, Nigeria’s Super Eagles did not end their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with a shocking 2-1 loss to Rwanda.
Nigeria hosted the match on Monday in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State but lost to a less performing Rwanda team who outdid themselves on Nigeria’s and stage a comeback win after falling 2-1 behind.
The Nigerian side had already secured a qualification for the AFCON 2025 in Morocco despite the lost finishing at the Group D with a total points of 11. Milan forward Samuel Chukwueze scored the only goal for Super Eagles in 59th minutes.
Rwanda did not waste time to recover as the team quickly score to make it a draw. Aimable Mutinzi scored a brilliant goal in the 72nd minute to make it a draw and in less than four minutes, Imanishimwe Nshuti scored another goal for Rwanda to seal the win against the Super Eagles.
Both teams were unlucky to score a goal in the first half of the games as they lost many changes that could have given either side the lead. Super Eagles started the second half with a strong momentum but their bad defence caused them the defeat.
Imanishimwe Nshuti became the hero for Rwanda helping the team to score an unforgettable win against the group leaders.
