Cameroon stole a 2-1 win against Zimbabwe in their Group J final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Tuesday afternoon at Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.
The victory sealed Cameroon’s unbeaten run in the tournament, with the Indomitable Lions topping their group table after four wins and two draws in the tournament.
Zimbabwe had already qualified for the finals and ended the qualifier campaign with the second position in the group after they won two games, drew three, and lost one.
Cameroon took advantage of the match by dominating in the early minutes, scoring their first goal in the 18th minutes to achieve the early lead through Vincent Aboubakar, who had scored a total of 42 international goals after a good run into the penalty area.
After five minutes, Christian Bassogog threw a well-calculated long pass to Kevin N’koudou, who then fired a shot that past the goalkeeper Washington Arubi to make it a double before the end of the first half.
Zimbabwe added pressure in the second half and responded with a goal after Coach Michael Nees brought in Terrence Dzvukamanja and Prince Dube in the 59th minute. Dzvukamanja played a smart one on goalkeeper Andre Onana in the 73rd minute.
Despite the pressure from Zimbabwe, Cameroon did not expose its defense while it held firm to secure a win.
