Manchester City’s forward Erling Haaland scored the only goal in the first half that led to a 1-0 victory against Southampton and put them at the top of the Premier League table, overtaking Liverpool.
Southampton performed poorly at the start of the match when Haaland found the back of the net within just five minutes of the match. Although Manchester City stole the possession, the first goal by Haaland was the only goal scored.
The forward had two attempts that were cleared off the line and missed an opportunity when he was close to the goalpost, which helped Southampton to put more effort into the stoppage time but they were unable to secure a draw.
Manchester City moved from the second position in the Premier League table to overtake former leader Liverpool, who will play against another strong side, Arsenal, on Sunday. The victory also extends City’s winning streak at their home, Etihad Stadium, to 35 matches since they were defeated by Brentford almost two years ago.
Manchester City displayed their overpowering and dominating display throughout the match, but Southampton did all that they could to equalize, but they were unable. Despite displaying a tough display against Manchester City, Southampton now sit in the bottom of the Premier League with only one point in all their matches.
