Dwyane Wade Honored with Statue Outside Miami Heats Arena But Fans Are Not Pleased With the End Result

On Sunday, the Miami Heat unveiled an eight-foot statue of Dwyane Wade outside the Kaseya Center. The statue shows Wade doing his famous ‘This is my house’ move from a 2009 game against the Chicago Bulls. This is the first time the Heat has made a statue for a player.

Dwyane Wade had an impressive 16-season career in the NBA, earning 13 All-Star selections and securing three championship titles. According to ESPN and CNN, he holds the Miami Heat’s records for the top scorer in terms of assists, points and number of games played.

Notably, he and Udonis Haslem are the only players to have been part of all three championship teams. Wade’s contributions to the sport were further recognized when he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

At the statue unveiling ceremony, Dwyane Wade appeared mostly amazed and later spoke to reporters about how important it was to enjoy moments like this. He mentioned that life moves quickly, making it rare to really feel and appreciate special times.

“This is crazy,” Wade said. “I wanted to feel this. Life goes by so fast and it’s very rare that we get to feel things, because we’re always off to the next thing. … I wanted to feel this, man. I wanted to look at it.”

Next to the statue is a wall listing Wade’s achievements.

This event takes place months after Team President Pat Riley first announced it. Looking back on Wade’s legacy, Riley shared that the 42-year-old was the greatest player in Miami Heat history and that the day was definitely about him and his family.

Meanwhile, a lot of people online are pointing out that the statue doesn’t really resemble Dwayne Wade, which has sparked a ton of jokes and memes. See what users on X are saying below.
