Liverpool have finally secured an agreement to bring in Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia to England with a contact that is almost about £29 million.
Giorgi Mamardashvili, a 23-year-old goalkeeper, will be moving to Liverpool for a fee of £25 million, with another £4 million in potential add-ons, till he secures a work permit and international clearance.
Mamardashvili will not leave Valencia now, as he is slated to feature in the current season and to move to Liverpool at the beginning of the 2025–26 campaign.
The signee for Liverpool will not depose Brazil international Alisson Becker as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, as the new boss, Slot, has the Republic of Ireland’s Caoimhin Kelleher available as a backup for Becker in this current season.
Mamardashvili played four matches for his country, Georgia, at the recently concluded Euro 2024 before they were defeated and sent out by eventual champions Spain in the last 16.
Since the goalkeeper joined Valencia three years ago, he has featured in 102 games for the club and started in both of their games this season, which they lost to both Barcelona and Celta Vigo.
Liverpool made their choice to purchase the goalkeeper, Mamardashvili, this season in anticipation that he would join their side next season, so as to protect other clubs from securing him before the team does.
Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, Allison, is not obnoxious of the contact despite having two years remaining on his contract with an option for an additional year; he is in support of the move too.
Liverpool sees the Mamardashvili addition as a valuable and lucrative one for their future goalkeeping options.
