Arne Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool, starts the Premier League season well with a 2-0 victory against newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday.
Liverpool won despite a frustrating opening half to score two goals after halftime in their first competitive match since the departure of Klopp at the end of last season.
Slot has maintained the current players that Klopp used in his time at Liverpool; he has signed no player since he was employed, making him the first permanent Liverpool manager to win his first league match in sole charge since Graeme Souness in 1991.
Although Liverpool did not perform up to expectations in the first half, they gave a much stronger second-half display that caused Peter Crouch to label their football “breathtaking.”.
“Liverpool needed to make a statement with the new manager and no signing,” said former Liverpool and England striker Crouch on TNT Sports.
“Some of the ways they opened Ipswich up, they looked like they were going to score at will.
“There are slight differences between Slot and Klopp but the fans will get on board.”
