Retired US Commander, General Ben Hodges, believes the gravest scenario for Ukraine lies in the continuation of current Western strategies.

During an interview at the Delphi Economic Conference in Greece, Hodges conveyed concerns over a paralyzed US Congress, a cautious White House, and apprehensive European allies, viewing these factors as advantageous for Russia.

He highlighted instances such as Germany’s refusal to supply Ukraine with 500km-range Taurus missiles and criticized the Biden administration for its perceived timidity.

Hodges warned against succumbing to Russia’s nuclear threats, cautioning that such reactions could fracture the Western alliance and provoke bolder support for Ukraine.

Expressing skepticism about Russia’s military prowess, Hodges noted its limitations in deploying large armored formations swiftly, lacking essential support infrastructure.

Despite Ukraine’s recent legislative efforts to bolster its forces, including offering incentives and benefits to frontline soldiers, Hodges urged Western allies to actively engage with Ukraine’s resilience and creativity rather than merely offering moral support.

He advocated for a strategic alignment with Ukraine’s goal of reclaiming its 1991 borders, suggesting the immediate provision of surplus weaponry and the redirection of ongoing arms production for export.

Furthermore, Hodges emphasized the significance of regaining control over Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, emphasizing its strategic importance in the ongoing conflict.

In essence, Hodges called for a cessation of hesitancy and self-imposed limitations, urging a more decisive and supportive stance from Western allies in aiding Ukraine.
