Australian actress Rebel Wilson revealed that the acclaimed docu-series “Welcome to Wrexham” played a pivotal role in igniting her newfound passion for football.
During an appearance on the BBC’s One Show on Wednesday night (May 1), the Hollywood luminary, known for her roles in blockbuster films like “Bridesmaids,” “Pitch Perfect,” and “The Hustle,” delved into the subject of football.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Wilson shared her admiration for the Wrexham documentary, which offers an intimate look into life both on and off the pitch for the Reds under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
On the One Show, Wilson remarked, “I’m a huge fan of the Australian women’s team, the Matildas, who delivered a stellar performance in the World Cup. I’m eagerly anticipating the Olympics and hoping to witness their brilliance live. Additionally, I find it fascinating to watch ‘Welcome to Wrexham’; it’s where I gained insight into the diverse leagues, and I find it incredibly captivating.”
Wilson’s connection with Wrexham dates back to 2021 when she was spotted filming in the area for her upcoming film, “The Almond And The Sea Horse,” an on-screen adaptation of Kaite O’Reilly’s stage play.
The film is scheduled to premiere in the UK on May 10, adding to Wilson’s multifaceted repertoire.
Perhaps the Australian star’s involvement will further enhance the roster of A-listers gracing the SToK Cae Ras with their presence.
