Red Bull has officially announced the departure of Adrian Newey from the team, marking the end of his nearly two-decade tenure at Milton Keynes.
Newey joined Red Bull ahead of their second Formula 1 season in 2006 and has played a pivotal role in the team’s transformation from midfield contenders to dominant forces in the sport, contributing significantly to their six constructors’ titles and seven drivers’ titles with cars he designed.
The decision for Newey to step down from his Chief Technical Officer role was confirmed ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, with his departure scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
In addition to relinquishing his Formula 1 design responsibilities, Newey will shift his focus towards the final development and delivery of Red Bull’s highly anticipated RB17 hypercar. He will oversee this project until its completion and will continue to provide on-site support to the Formula 1 team for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Red Bull Team Principal and CEO Christian Horner praised Newey’s immense contribution to the team, hailing him as a “true legend” within the sport.
As for Newey’s future beyond Red Bull, while it remains undisclosed, speculation suggests potential destinations such as Ferrari, who recently secured Lewis Hamilton for the upcoming season, and Aston Martin. Nevertheless, Newey’s unparalleled track record in Formula 1, which includes guiding 12 constructors’ winning cars, ensures that wherever he goes, his expertise will be invaluable.
