Anya Taylor-Joy just dropped a bombshell – the Queen’s Gambit star has been privately married to musician Malcolm McRae for the past couple of years.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Taylor-Joy commemorated her second wedding anniversary by revealing the two actually tied the knot back in 2022 during an under-the-radar ceremony in New Orleans on April Fool’s Day.
“Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans,” the 27-year-old actress wrote. “The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever.”
Anya Taylor-Joy shared photos from the gothic-themed nuptials, including snaps of her Dior wedding gown, “anatomically correct heart cakes,” and her hiding under her train with McRae and model Cara Delevingne.
The surprise revelation confirms previous reports that Taylor-Joy and McRae had a low-key courthouse wedding in 2022, followed by a larger celebration at a historic palazzo in Italy last October.
Anya Taylor-Joy appeared to make a cheeky reference to the secrecy around her marital status by signing off the anniversary post: “Yes, I am the vampire Lestat” – a nod to the Anne Rice novel Interview With the Vampire.
The two have been relatively private about their romance since making their red-carpet debut as a couple at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscars party. McRae even released a song, that same year, said to be inspired by meeting his now-wife.
In a 2022 interview with British Vogue, Taylor-Joy hinted at her domestic bliss, calling McRae her “hobby” and someone who will “happily sit in silence” reading with her.
“We’re basically 80 years old and seven at the same time,” she said of their relationship dynamic.
While fans were certainly surprised to learn the notoriously private actress has been a wife for years, Taylor-Joy seemed to relish finally sharing her happy news – a magical wedding to her “best friend” that she can now celebrate openly.
