Liverpool has now claimed the title of the most successful team in the history of English football.
Their victory came on Sunday, with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, sealed by Virgil van Dijk’s header in the 118th minute at Wembley. This triumph marks another significant achievement in Jurgen Klopp’s nine-year tenure as Liverpool’s manager.
Van Dijk’s decisive goal, the 42nd attempt of the match, not only secured the cup for Liverpool but also etched their name into history.
With this victory, Liverpool’s trophy count now stands at 68, encompassing domestic and international leagues, cups, and super cups.
Previously tied with arch-rivals Manchester United at 67 trophies, Liverpool has now surpassed them, solidifying their status as the most successful club in English football.
United had drawn level with Liverpool’s trophy count by winning the same competition last season, defeating Newcastle United 2-0 in the final at Wembley. However, Liverpool’s recent triumph has once again placed them in the lead.
Liverpool’s dominance extends beyond domestic success, as they currently lead the Premier League standings, one point ahead of Manchester City, and are strong contenders in the FA Cup.
In European competition, Liverpool is set to face Sparta Prague in the Europa League round of 16.
