Tottenham Hotspur Women shocked rivals Arsenal to claim three points for the first time in north London, in front of 19,480 fans at the Spurs Stadium.
Martha Thomas’ goal in the 58th minute was enough to seal the win for Spurs.
Arsenal had 32 shots on target but could not convert any goal.
In ten previous league and Cup matches between the two sides since a 0-10 defeat in their first encounter in 2017, Tottenham had never won.
Spurs had gone five league games without a win this season, despite starting brightly under a new coach. Their last two matches had been heavy losses to Manchester City (0-7) and Manchester United (0-4).
They had also been defeated by Arsenal on penalties just three days before in the League Cup.
Arsenal had garnered the same points as Chelsea, after thrashing them 4-1 last week.
Tottenham’s Votíková was making her first league appearance of the season after her summer transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
With seven goals and one assist, Thomas is now the leading goalscorer in the Women’s Super League.
