Arsenal Women Thump Leicester City To Go 2nd In Super League

Arsenal women came from two goals down in the first half to thrash Leicester Coty women 6-2 at King Power Stadium and move up to second in the Women’s Super League table.

In the 36th minute, Sam Tierney nodded Lena Petermann’s headed pass back into the back of the net to give Leicester their first-ever goal against the Gunners. 

Petermann made it two, sliding in Hannah Cain’s cross in the 37th minute. 

After the break, Arsenal got their groove back. 

Cloe Lacasse beat Courtney Nevin to the ball from Foord and slotted it in calmly in the 50th minute to get Arsenal back in the game. 

Two minutes later, Alexia Russo who was unmarked leveled the game after she fired beyond Foxes keeper Janina Leitzig from McCabe’s cross. 

Caitlin Foord scored the 3rd for the Gunners after guiding in Russo’s cross and Victoria Pelova scored Arsenal’s fourth with a 61st-minute tap-in from Lacasse’s pass.

In the closing stages substitute Stina Blackstenius, substitute scored the visitor’s fifth and Lina Hurtig finished the game with a goal of her own for Arsenal after hitting the woodwork twice previously. 

Jonas Eidevall’s side have now won each of their past five matches in all competitions and are three points behind WSL leaders Chelsea.

On the other hand, Leicester have lost all five of their WSL meetings with the Gunners by an aggregate score of 19-2.
