The Comoros now lead the Group A side of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers after beating Madagascar 1-0 on Monday, November 18th, at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima.
The team parades a perfect record as it is yet to be defeated in the qualifying match. Comoros secures the win after Yacine Bourhane scored an early goal in the second half to achieve its first win against Madagascar, topping the group rival Tunisia, which lost 1-0 to Gambia in a concurrent match.
The team will now play in the 2025 African Cup of Nations that will be hosted in Morocco, while their opponent, Madagascar, will not be going as it has been eliminated losing three of their first five matches in the qualifier.
Madagascar had a chance of ending the match in a draw after Rayan Raveloson made a well-calculated shot in the 12th minute of the match, but the effort was denied by Comoros goalkeeper Salim Ben Boina. The group leader did not wait much before it responded with a good effort in the 20th minute by Faiz Selemani; his attempt was denied by Sonny Laiton.
Comoros took advantage of a rebound it made in the early minutes of the second half, 47th minute, when Bourhane through the rebound that was made after Warmed Omari’s header was saved.
Madagascar did their best in ensuring that they get a win, especially by denying Comoros their first win against them through efforts that were made by Ryan Ponti and Warren Caddy, but Comoros ensured that their unbeaten run continued.
