Police say they intend to file charges against US YouTuber Kai Cenat after the event he organized to give out video game consoles in New York caused chaos.
In anticipation of receiving free PlayStation 5 devices, thousands of people ran amok in Union Square, throwing bottles, rocks, and paint cans.
Multiple counts of instigating a riot and unlawful assembly may be brought against Mr. Cenat.
Police claim to have made over 60 arrests.
As police warned people to stay away from the area, subway trains passed the Union Square stop throughout the incident, according to the BBC’s US partner CBS.
After Mr. Cenat announced on social media, where he has more than 10 million followers and subscribers, that he would be giving away 300 PlayStations, people started to gather at around 13:00 local time.
Hundreds had gathered on the streets near one of New York’s busiest subway stops by 15:00.
They assaulted the responding police by scaling cars and the top of the train station entrance.
A “level four” mobilization was declared by the New York Police Department, which meant that about 1,000 officers had been sent to the area.
