After a picture of an explosion that was said to have happened close to the Pentagon Complex in Washington D.C. went viral, the stock market temporarily dipped.

The photo of the explosion which has been discovered to be a fake and AI-generated picture went viral on Twitter. The photo first appeared on Facebook before it was uploaded by a blue-verified account on Twitter named Bloomberg Feed, which has now been suspended.

This is the first time an AI-generated image has caused a movement of $500 billion in the market – a peek at the potential power and effects of artificial intelligence.

Twitter, once again faces backlash for the being platform where fake photo was shared. In recent times, under the ownership of Elon Musk, the social media platform has been called out for its leniency towards fake news.

Major News agency has even faulted DeSantis’s use of Twitter to announce his 2024 presidential candidacy for this reason.

To limit the spread of fake and AI generated contents such as photos and videos, Aljazeera created four ways to identify them.
