CalFresh, formerly known as food stamps, is an entitlement scheme that provides low-income households in the US state of California with monthly benefits to help them buy the food they need to maintain a sufficient level of nutrition.
These advantages are generally applicable to any food or food product meant for human consumption but cannot be used to purchase things like cigarettes, alcohol, or paper products.
According to the California Department of Social Services official website, “CalFresh benefits can help buy nutritious foods for a better diet.”
“CalFresh benefits stretch food budgets, allowing individuals and families to afford nutritious food, including more fruit, vegetables and other healthy foods. The amount of benefits a household receives is dependent on household size countable income, and monthly expenses, such as housing and utilities.”
