South Korean footballer and striker Cho Gue-sung had numerous marriage proposals and friend/dating requests from women that he had to put his mobile phone off. His Instagram account also exploded from 20,000 followers to over 2.3 million fans.
A South Korean reporter, Seo Jung-hwan told The Athletic. “He had to get some rest. His phone was going all night. It was keeping him awake. He was trying to concentrate on football and, all the time, the messages were coming.”
This rush came after his first and stellar performance in the World Cup in Qatar during South Korea’s match against Ghana where he scored two goals.
Cho Gue-sung was popularly referred to as “player number 9” because people were just endeared to him more than before they actually knew who he was.

Previously, it trended on social media that he was in a relationship with a model named Ji Min Joo. However, the lady’s management denied it saying their relationship was not a romantic or sexual one.
Then Cho Gue-sung was said to be dating the older sibling of Haram from the girl group Billlie. The group’s management responded by saying it is the artist’s family’s matter, hence they have no business with it and have nothing to say.
Clash with Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal
During South Korea’s match with Portugal in the World Cup in Qatar, there was a verbal altercation between Cho Gue-sung and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal star alleged that Cho told had him to get off the football pitch.
It was also alleged that Cho Gue-sung learned how to speak Portuguese language so he can taunt Portugual players. However, that might not have been the case as Portugal coach, Fernando Santos, said Cho Gue-Sung made his remarks in English.
