ASUU Ends 8 Months Strike After Court Order, But Might Start Another One

asuu-strike-meeting

We can report with authority that the Academic Staff Union of Universities has called off its eight-month-old strike.

The decision was made at the conclusion of the National Executive Council meeting, which was held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja, our correspondent learned, however, the union has not yet made an official announcement.

Speaking with a reporter, a knowledgeable source within the NEC confirmed that the event had been canceled.

The insider responded that “the president will make an official circular in the morning” when pressed for more information.

It was discovered that the academic union went on strike on Monday, February 14, 2022, to protest the Federal Government’s refusal to follow the Memorandum of Understanding it had signed with it in 2009.

However, there are speculations that the ASSU might start another strike, as the court only mandated the union to call off the strike, but did not ban them from starting a fresh one.
