[Watch] Anitta: meet the first Brazilian woman to win a VMA

anitta-vmas-2022.

At the 2022 MTV VMAs on Sunday night, August 28, Anitta created history. The “Best Latin Artist” prize went to the Latin superstar, who became the first Brazilian solo artist to get it.

The momentous occasion follows her becoming the first Brazilian to reach number one on the daily global Spotify chart with her song “Envolver,” which has amassed over 300 million views on YouTube.

Before the 29-year-old walked the stage in an asymmetrical, seductive-red corset dress with a breast cover from Schiaparelli Haute Couture’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, model Ashley Graham presented the award.

While Madonna’s rendition of “Like A Virgin” at the very first VMAs or even Normani’s seductive rendition of her single, “Wild Side,” during last year’s ceremony may come to mind as two iconic, sexual VMA moments, following tonight, Anitta might be the next contender to be “added to the list.”
