A rare moment was captured on camera when a humpback whale breached and crashed on a small boat off the coast of White Horse Beach in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Luckily, there was no fatality or injury from the incident. The boat which survived being capsized by the impact was later pictured with some damage.
A whale breaches when it uses its massive tail, called fluke, to propel all or most parts of its body out of the water. Although many reasons such as catching some air, playing, etc, have been put forward on why whales breach, it is held that they do so as a form of communication, as sound transfers faster underwater than on land.
