Tributes flood social media as top award-winning actor, Sidney Poitier, was announced dead in the Bahamas, at 94 years old.
He was known for his role in redefining the image of the black man, garnering honor and influence both in the entertainment world and beyond.
Sidney Poitier was the first Black actor to win an Academy Award for the best lead performance and the first to be a top box-office draw.
He was also honored by former President of the United States, Barack Obama, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
Sidney Poitier was well known for his movies which include “In the Heat of the Night” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner“.
