The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has finally lifted the ban he placed on Twitter 222 days ago.
The new development which kicked of by midnight today (13th of Jan. 2022) was announced through a statement accented by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.
According to Abdullahi, he addressed the fact that the reason behind the sudden suspension of the app is due to the increased breeding of fake news about the country on the platform and to deal with the app’s operation in Nigeria.
The statement partly reads;
“The Federal Government of Nigeria directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12 am tonight, January 13, 2022.
“The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami.”
