The Lagos State Government under the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu is keeping up with its promise to uphold sporting activities within the state.
The government honored athletes who represented Lagos State in the Sports Festival, held in Edo State, as well as athletes that will represent Nigeria at the Tokyo Olympics.
I assured the athletes that this would be a new beginning for sports development as I just assented to the amended Sport Commission Law, which was initiated to promote sporting activities in the grassroots.
A grand reception was hosted for them and they were awarded various amounts of cash gifts.
At the ceremony, I presented a cheque of N146 to our representatives at the National Sport Festival. I also presented cheques ranging from N300,000 to N5 million to winners of medals in the contest.
Ahmed Koleosho, a para table tennis player and Lagos team captain, received a cheque of N2.5 million prize for his feat. He will also be representing Nigeria at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Sanwo-Olu also announced that he has given approval for the renovation of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, as well as the construction of 8 new stadia across the State, to enhance sporting activities, especially amongst the youths.
