The Indiana Fever pulled off their wildest comeback after trailing by 14 points against the Connecticut Suns with only a little over six minutes to play.
They were again without their star, Caitlin Clark, who was dealing with a muscle injury. They were also without Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald, who had injuries that ended their season already.
Fever was playing without a number of their stars, so they had to put together a strategy that works.
“It was more about what we did from a standpoint of the mindset and the mentality,” Mitchell said.
The Fever players did their best to compete in a must-win situation. But during the game, they were handed another blow after Sophie Cunningham obtained an injury early in the second quarter, which had her taken off.
It should have broken the team or maybe dimmed their energy, and for a while it did. They trailed by 21 in the third quarter against the Suns. But the game was far from over.
The Fever players had to put everything on the line. So, they fought back, and at the beginning of the fourth quarter, they were down by 15 points.
“I think right now, even through adversity, we’re able to see God’s blessing over us. I mean, we’re down 21 and we come back and we play. What stands out the most is everyone coming in and affecting the game the way they did,” Aaliyah Boston, who finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds, said.
Fever’s Kelsey Mitchell was the star of the night, finishing with 38 points in their 99-93 win over Connecticut..
