A rare fish called an Oarfish that lives deep inside the ocean and is known to bring disaster whenever it surfaces and is seen was washed ashore in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
The Oarfish, also known as the Doomsday fish, looks like a long serpent and has never been seen alive in over 100 years.
Beachgoers discovered the live creature swimming towards the shore, its body giving an illusion of flaming blue waves. The mysterious creature also has a flat body structure and can grow up to 36 feet long. Despite its reflective body surface, the Oarfish lives at the bottom of the sea, where it is dark and only surfaces when they are sick or about to die.
The people who discovered the fish said they directed it back into the sea, but it came back. It was picked by a man and later released into the see,a where it swam off.

It is unclear if it survived. According to NOAA, simply putting a fish back in water does not ensure its survival, and it should not be taken out of water for over a minute. They also advised that its entire body be supported when carrying it.
Legendary tales claim the sighting of the Doomsday Oarfish predicts a coming earthquake or the coming of a natural disaster.
In Japan, the Oarfish is known as ryugu no tsukai which means “messenger from the sea god’s palace,”. In 2011, after 20 oarfish washed ashore in Japan, the Asian country had its most powerful earthquake and ensuing tsunami that killed over 18,000 people.
Three separate oarfish sightings were reported in Southern California in 2024, an area known for incessant earthquakes. That same year, the region had over 14 earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or higher.
