TikTok has been restored for some users in the United States after it was suspended as a result of an order by the Supreme Court.
The Chinese-owned company was suspended for about 14 hours, with top users having full-on meltdowns about monetization and their source of livelihood.
A lot of these users hoped Trump was capable of handling the situation and restoring the video app since it was banned by the court, however, there was a condition. Trump wanted TikTok to sell 50% of its shares to the United States so that both countries could benefit.
TikTok had been battling legal problems in the United States when the Senate agreed it could be an outlet for treason or a means to release critical secret information about the United States to the public. Although the Chinese social platform tried everything to abort the ban, the court agreed with the Senate and ordered TikTok to suspend their activities in January or face sanctions.
In response, Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, announced that he will allow TikTok to return to the United States when he assumed office by extending a deadline for the China-based owner ByteDance to bring in the US as part-owners of the app.
Although not all U.S. users were able to access their accounts, the ones that could access saw the message, ‘Thanks for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!”
TikTok has about 170 million users in the United States; watching videos, posting videos, getting tips on what’s trending and the latest news.
For this reason, TikTok CEO ByteDance has been doing everything to get the app up and running again in the States.
Using their social media account, the company said in a statement, ‘In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties for providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
