The San Francisco 49ers lost two of their linebackers to injuries while they were playing on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Rams.
While the team was left confused due to the injury its linebacker sustained, they called on their veteran De’Vondre Campbell to feature in the game, but the player refused. In the fourth quarter, De’Vondre Campbell excused himself from the pitch with a towel over his head as he refused to participate in the game.
A frustrated head coach, Kyle Shanahan, addressed the issue after his team, the San Francisco 49ers, lost 12-6 to their opponent, explaining that Campbell decided to stay off the match even though the team needed him to play.
His refusal to play caused teammates to be angry, including Shanahan. Campbell joined the team this year after his signing to help the 49ers as preparations were being made for Dre Greenlaw to recover from his Achilles injury.
They immediately packed Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to play in his place as their only healthy linebacker. While many players like Fred Warner and Nick Bosa say little about Campbell’s refusal to play, other players like George Kittle could not hide their anger.
Teammate cornerback Charvarius Ward, who just lost his young female child, said it is still a puzzle to him as to why Campbell arrived at his decision.
The head coach has informed the media that the team may likely take action against Campbell soon.
