Eli Holstein will not feature in Pittsburgh’s final fall game; he is already ruled out for today’s GameAbove Sports Bowl due to injury against Toledo. A redshirt freshman, David Lynch, will play in the game, making it his first collegiate start in Detroit.

The leg injury that Eli Holstein sustained during a sack in the team’s 37-9 defeat on November 23 at Louisville is the reason the star will miss the game. Holstein was helped out of the field after sustaining the injury while his leg was held in an air cast. He left the field on crutches.

The redshirt freshman, who is also a former four-star recruit, Holstein had a strong start to the season at Pitt after he was transferred from Alabama despite his injuries.

Eli Holstein’s efforts made him complete 180 of 291 passes (61.9%) for 2,225 yards and 17 touchdowns, while he also made seven interceptions, including a touchdown, and 328 rushing yards.

David Lynch also recorded 66.7% of his passes for 46 yards and one interception in two games that he featured. He came to fame as the Panthers faced Toledo in their bowl game.
