A woman revealed why nobody should share their achievements publicly on social media. She says she now believes the advice, though she learned it the hard way.
Swidi Lomkhuhlane, who seemingly hails from South Africa/Swaziland narrated her personal experience on Twitter, now X. She made a tweet on November 8, 2023, where she announced that she was awarded as the best-performing student in Industrial Psychology in the BCom Hons class.
She shared photos of her graduation and was thankful to herself for not giving up, despite the very challenging obstacles she faced during her schooling.
“I got to the school 6 weeks late because I needed time to raise registration fees and I missed my bus twice. Some lecturers told me to just leave and try next year because I was too behind. I wanted to leave too but my mom motivated me to stay.”
Her story went viral and has been seen over 2.9 million times as of today.
However, on November 10, she revealed that she had an accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down. She said the accident happened on her way home after she had written her final exams.
She stressed that her current predicament was a result of when she publicly showed off her achievements on social media when she said there were 5 people in the car but only her side was hit.
Lomkhuhlane lamented that she could not graduate because she had yet to finish her research and can not type on her computer.
She detailed her medical journey so far which includes over 5 major surgeries, having spent 6 months in the hospital, of which three were hooked up in the ICU.
Her story drew sympathy from many, and a good number of them believed that jealousy and bad thoughts, especially from friends and family when one was progressing, could cause such calamity to happen.
