The Super Eagles team of Nigeria has qualified for the 2025 AFCON after Libya defeated Rwanda 1-0 on Thursday at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali. The team drew 1-1 against Benin despite its qualification after Victor Osimhen scored an equalizing goal.
Benin Republic scored against the Super Eagles in the 16th minute to secure an early lead. Benin created chances to score another goal but was unable to capitalize on their early gain.
Nigeria’s side bounced back in the second half with an aggressive approach, and Galatasaray’s forward Osimhen converted a cross from Moses Simon in the 81st minute into a goal to secure a draw against Benin’s side.
The Benin Republic made all attempts to break the Super Eagles’ defense, but the Nigerian squad held firm, securing a draw that secured their first position in the group. The result solidified Nigeria’s qualification to AFCON after a win by Libya had already helped the Super Eagles qualify.
While the Super Eagles had already qualified, the same cannot be said of Benin, Rwanda, and Libya, who are still contending to make it to next year’s AFCON.
Ghana is also likely to make it to the 2025 AFCON game in Morocco after Niger defeated Sudan 4-0 to reignite their chances. Ghana must win Angola on Friday to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
