Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently back online after experiencing a major outage that left gamers around the globe unable to access their accounts or play online games.
The outage, which lasted for more than 6 hours, affected multiple consoles, including the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and older models such as the PS 3. It is reported by Downdetector, an outage tracker, that the disruption peaked late Monday night when users started making reports about issues with logging into their PSN accounts, accessing the PlayStation Store, and launching games.
According to people who went online to express their dissatisfaction with the development, gamers couldn’t download new content, access online multiplayer games, or even use offline features that require PSN verification. Generally, it had been particularly disruptive for those who rely on online gaming for social interaction and entertainment.
At the time, Sony confirmed on the PlayStation Network Service Status page, that some services were indeed having issues but that they (the company) were working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
While Sony has not yet disclosed the exact cause of the outage, many have made speculations ranging from technical glitches to potential cyberattacks. Some experts also suggest that it could be related to recent updates or maintenance activities, although this has not been confirmed.
For more than an hour now, the network service status for those in the US shows that all services have been updated and are running properly. If you’re still experiencing any issues based on your location, you can keep checking the PlayStation Network status page for updates and try logging in periodically. Gamers still affected have also been advised to remain patient and avoid making any changes to their account settings or network configurations.
