Leicester City threw a dramatic comeback victory over 10-man Southampton to ensure the opponent did not earn their first win this season in the Premier League at St Mary’s.
The host team, led by manager Russell Martin, has been facing numerous challenges following their 21 consecutive Premier League losses, raising concerns about the future of Southampton’s coach within the club.
Southampton had a fine start when Joe Aribo fired a shot that hit the crossbar and Cameron Archer scored a goal that put the club in the lead in the 7th minute, with an assist from Kyle Walker-Peters.
Aribo scored the second goal before the half-hour mark, set up by Walker-Peters when Southampton was in control.
Leicester City could not do much to take control of the game until the 60th minute, but Abdul Fatawu came in as a substitute to change the game. He also put the cross that Facundo Buonanotte took advantage of to score for his team. When VAR noticed Ryan Fraser committing a foul against Jamie Vardy, Fraser was shown a red card, and Leicester was given a penalty against Southampton.
Vardy scored the goal that put the game in 2-2. The host’s belief in a draw was dashed in the last minutes when Jordan Ayew scored the last goal from a winner from a corner.
