Ethiopia has been surprised by a rude shock in their pursuit for the 2025 African Cup of Nations after losing 4-1 on Saturday night in their qualifying match against Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ivory Coast. This loss has reduced the team to the bottom side of their group, H, while Guinea now sits in third place with three points after this win.

DR Congo stands as the leader of Group H with nine points, while Tanzania tops Guinea with only one point. Both DR Congo and Tanzania will feature in the Morocco 2025 tournament.

Guinea proved that they deserved the win when the team dominated and secured an early win after Serhou Guirassy scored the first goal in the 18th minute of the game.

Guinea’s supporters were not done jubilating when Serhou Guirassy added another goal in the 38th minute after converting a fine assist from his teammate Seydouba Cisse. He stole the attention of every onlooker after scoring a hat-trick before the end of the first half, converting a pass that came from Francois Kamano to give Guinea a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Just as the second half started, Guinea added another goal from Seydouba Cisse in the 48th minute, rounding it to 4-0. Despite the huge loss on Ethiopia’s side, the team did not end the game without scoring a goal in the 53rd minute through Canaan Markneh’s placing.

Both teams will have a rematch again on Tuesday at the same stadium, Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ivory Coast.
