Danny Welbeck broke Newcastle United’s home win in the Premier League since January with his first-half goal that secured three points for Brighton. This win pushed Brighton to fifth place in the league’s table while Newcastle maintains 8th place.
Brighton kept a defensive position at the beginning of the match, hoping for a win or at least a draw, but Danny Welbeck’s quick thinking turned the tide.
Welbeck, who formerly played the forward side for England and is expected to celebrate his 34th birthday in the coming November, gave a brilliant one-two pass with teammate Georginio Rutter before he converted the opportunity into a goal by slotting the ball into the bottom right corner with a first shot on target by Brighton.
The former England forward was excused at almost the end of the game when he was taken off the field in a stretcher due to a back injury that he encountered. Welbeck has scored a total of five goals in eight top-flight matches that he played this season.
The win was a result that Newcastle United could not convert opportunities into a goal in its own home, and Brighton also provided a solid defense. Newcastle United created many beautiful chances, with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon both almost going to score, but all the efforts did not amount to a goal.
