Chef Mussie Imnetu, who worked with Gordon Ramsay, tragically passed away after being transported to the hospital on August 26 for immediate treatment following a serious assault at a carnival.
It is alleged that the 41-year-old, who was visiting the UK for work, had sustained major injuries to the head after he was punched five times by 31-year-old Owen Wilson outside a restaurant in Queensway. Prosecutor Julian Winship told the court during Monday’s hearing that the “deceased collapsed and the defendant (Wilson) continued to attack him punching to the head.”
Metropolitan Police say that Imnetu was immediately attended to by medics after he was found unconscious on the ground after 11:00 p.m during the Notting Hill Carnival. Four days after he was taken to a hospital, he died.
Originally, Wilson was charged with causing grievous bodily harm. However, once it was confirmed that the victim had passed away, the prosecutors changed the charge to murder. The suspect has been in custody without bond and has also been scheduled for a hearing at Old Bailey on November 25.
Before his death, Mussie Imnetu was the head chef at the Brasserie and the director of a charity organization. Besides Ramsay, he has worked with other celebrity chefs, including Alain Duccase and Marcus Wareing.
Another incident occurred in late August at Notting Hill Carnival, involving 20-year-old Shakiel Thibou, who stabbed 32-year-old Cher Maximen in the groin with a knife. It is not clear if the attack was initially aimed at her, as she was attempting to intervene in a fight involving Shakiel and his two brothers, Sheldon, 24, and Shaeim, 21, when she was injured.
Reports from The Independent indicate that she later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital due to extensive blood loss. Shakeil faces charges of murder and violent disorder, while his brothers have been charged with lesser offenses. All three brothers are scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey court on November 28 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
