It was a tragic Friday as Model Dirt superstar, Scott Bloomquist, tragically lost his life in a small aircraft crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee. He was 60 years old at the time of his death.
The crash happened when Bloomquist was flying one of his vintage planes around his family-owned farm.
Information concerning his death was posted on Facebook by a friend of his family, who claimed that the athlete was involved in a recreational flight when the crash occurred.
Until his death, he was very popular in the racing world; he earned 94 wins in the Lucas Oil Late Model series and 33 victories in the World of Outlaws Late Model series during his career. His last major victory in these primary series took place in 2020 at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Knoxdale, Pennsylvania.
Bloomquist was loved among his fans and a go-to athlete in the racing community. He was a consistent racer and was dedicated to the sport.
One of his best performances, where he earned a top-five finish, came earlier this year in a Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series race held in Tazewell, Tennessee.
