Tennessee Baseball Set To Face Texas A&M In College World Series Final

Tennessee baseball is set to face Texas A&M for the College World Series title.

The No. 1 Vols (58-12) and No. 3 Aggies (52-13) will compete in a best-of-three CWS final series starting Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. This marks the third time in four seasons that two SEC teams will vie for the national championship, ensuring an SEC team will claim the title for the fifth consecutive year.

Tennessee and Texas A&M previously met in the SEC Tournament on May 23, with the Vols winning 7-4 in their only matchup of the season.

Vols coach Tony Vitello was an assistant coach under Texas A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle at Texas Christian University from 2011-13.

How Tennessee Baseball Reached the College World Series Final:
Tennessee’s journey to the College World Series final began with a dramatic start. The Vols scored four runs in the ninth inning to defeat Florida State 12-11 on a Dylan Dreiling walk-off single Friday.

The Vols then easily defeated North Carolina 6-1 on Sunday, marking their first 2-0 start in the CWS in program history. They secured their spot in the final series by beating Florida State 7-2 on Wednesday, reaching the final for the first time since 1951.

How Texas A&M Reached the College World Series Final:
The Aggies also had an exciting start to their CWS run. Right fielder Jace LaViolette robbed a potential go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning of their first game Saturday, helping Texas A&M secure a 3-2 victory over Florida. The Aggies then defeated Kentucky 5-1 on Tuesday and eliminated Florida 6-0 on Wednesday to advance to the final.
