Iwobi’s Late Goal Secures Fulham’s First Home Win Of The Season Against Leicester

Alex Iwobi scored a 70-minute goal that gave Fulham victory against Leicester in their first home game of the Premier League.

Iwobi placed the ball through the legs of Leicester City’s goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, to seal Fulham’s victory after Wout Faes had equalized for Leicester before halftime, which made it a 1-1 draw.

Fulham merited their win as they dominated throughout the match and opened the scoring with club record signing Emile Smith Rowe, who scored after beautifully using a pass from Adama Traore on the left and driving a shot into the far corner. Smith Rowe, who was signed by Fulham for £34 million from Arsenal earlier this month after Mikel Arteta felt it was time to relive his job at Arsenal, made an immediate impact at Craven Cottage.

Smith Rowe said, “I can’t be happier. To play my first game at Craven Cottage and get the three points, I’m really happy.”

Leicester made it a 1-1 draw after 20 minutes when Wout Faes scored, but referee Darren Bond formerly ruled it out, citing Jamie Vardy’s interference with Bernd Leno in an offside position. A review by VAR made Bond overturn his decision, seeing that Leno had pushed Vardy out of his way.

Leicester struggled to at least get a draw after Iwobi’s goal but could not do enough to secure a late equalizer.

Wilfred Ndidi came very close to equalizing, but his shot was straight at Leno at the end of the game.

This win gave Fulham their first three points of the season after they lost 1-0 to Manchester United in their season opener.
