BeatKing, a well-known Houston rapper who delivered on viral songs “Then Leave” and “Thick,” has died. The news was confirmed on Instagram by his manager Tasha Felder. He was quite young.
According to TMZ, BeatKing died Thursday of a pulmonary embolism. He had fainted at a local studio where he appeared as a guest and was rushed to the hospital.
“BeatKing has been the best part of the club for over a decade. He has produced and worked with so many artists that his sound will forever live. He loved his daughters @clubgodparenting, his music, and his fans. We will love him forever,” Felder wrote.
Sending his condolences, Houston artiste Bun B posted a photo of BeatKing with the caption, “It’s always the good ones. Damn this sh** hurt. Just a great-spirited person. We lost a talented artist and father.”
Three 6 Mafia commented on Felder’s post, “RIP MANE!!! GREAT BROTHER!!”
BeatKing, whose real name was Justin Riley, rose to fame with his 2010 album “Kings of the Club.”
He is survived by his two daughters, Jayla and Kayla, who frequently feature their dad on their joint Instagram account.
His latest album, ‘Never leave Houston on a Sunday’ drops in July.
The Houston rapper has worked with A-list artists like 2 Chainz, Bun B, Slim Thug, and T-Pain. He even made a surprise appearance during Nicki Minaj’s late-night show at Toyota Center.
Along with music, BeatKing was known for his black T-shirts featuring funny slogans, including “Gum is not toothpaste” and “You ugly if I’m not shy.”
