Barcelona and Athletic Club will now renew their transfer competition over Nico Williams next year, in 2025.
Williams featured in the lineup of Athletic Club this weekend, although the club was defeated 2-1 by Barcelona in an important La Liga match that could have earned them three points.
Nico Williams, who is now 22 years old, had been rumored to be open to leaving Athletic Club for Barcelona if they could pay his €58 million release clause at the Estadio San Mames.
Meanwhile, Athletic Club still has the young, talented champ, regardless of the rumors flying in different media.
There is no headway at the moment, but Barcelona is openly showing interest in signing him, while Athletic Club is gearing up to fend off the interest once again next summer.
An ex-player of the Athletic Club, Inigo Martinez, who now finds himself with divided loyalties, noted that the final decision in this rivalry lies with the player himself, Williams, who will make the choice that best serves his career.
“Nico is going to continue growing, if it’s in a new team, that’s fine and if it’s at Athletic Club, that’s also fine. The decision will always be his”, as per quotes from Diario AS.
“I will support him in any way I can.”
