Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal coach was happy with the team’s goalkeeper, David Raya, for his great performance in the match that gave his side a 2-0 win against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.
Raya’s great save denied Ollie Watkins a shot, helping Arsenal maintain victory with their second win of the two matches they have played this season.
Amadou Onana did a strike that was deflected off Gabriel and hit the crossbar early in the second half, with the match still 0-0.
Watkins gave a quick reaction, but from just four yards out, his diving header was saved by Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Raya.
Raya immediately returned to his feet and pushed away Watkins’ effort, maintaining a clean sheet for Mikel Arteta’s side.
“When we had to rely on certain individuals we did, like the situation of David – that is an unbelievable save,” Arteta said.
“When we made the changes, the impact they had was tremendous. When the team starts to be equipped that way and starts to be able to navigate through different contexts in the match, it becomes a team that can win in every place. Today we showed that.”
