French-born actor Alain Delon, popular for both of his movies, a heartthrob, and a controversial figure, died at the age of 88 years old.
Delon’s children confirmed to the French media that the iconic and famous actor, who was globally famous for his parts in films like Purple Noon (1960) and Le Samoura (1967), gave up on Sunday morning.
Emmanuel Macron, the president of French cinema, paid tribute to Alain Delon, expressing him as an iconic screen god and as a “monument” of French cinema.
Delon was hit with a stroke in 2019. As he continues to battle health challenges, his son Anthony revealed earlier this year that his father was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma, a type of cancer.
The actor’s failing health became the subject of disputes among his family. He made headlines in 2023 when three of his children filed a complaint against his Hiromi Rollin, his live-in assistant, while they accused her of threatening behavior and harassment.
Despite being largely absent from the screen since the 1990s, Delon was publicly seen in May 2019, when he got an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
“It’s a bit of a posthumous tribute, but from my lifetime,” he had said upon receiving the award.
