Search teams looking for missing British teenager Jay Slater on the Spanish island of Tenerife have discovered the body of a young man.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the young man “could have suffered an accident or fall in an inaccessible area,” according to reports.

Slater, a 19-year-old from Lancashire, northern England, went missing nearly a month ago after attending the NRG festival in the south of the island.

His last known communication was around 8:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m. ET) on June 17, as reported by his friend Lucy Mae, who set up a GoFundMe campaign for him.

Mae stated on the GoFundMe page that Slater “had met two people on Sunday night” and left to go to their apartment, which was situated in a very secluded location.

She mentioned that Slater departed the apartment at 8 a.m. local time (3 a.m. ET) and walked for about half an hour, calling her in a panic when his phone battery reached 1%.

LBT Global, a charity that assists British nationals in crisis abroad, posted on Facebook expressing their sorrow at the news that the body found in Tenerife is believed to be that of Jay Slater.

Britain’s Lancashire Police confirmed that the Guardia Civil had informed them that a man’s body had been found, with indications suggesting that it is indeed Jay Slater.
