A staff member in Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson’s office has been dismissed following a series of controversial social media posts about the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident occurred shortly after an armed assailant fired shots at Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Jacqueline Marsaw, who served as a case manager/field director for Bennie Thompson, made several posts on Facebook that appeared to express disappointment in the failed assassination attempt and suggested future attackers should improve their aim. The posts quickly went viral, attracting nearly 4 million views after being captured and published by Magnolia Tribune.

Marsaw’s posts included comments such as “don’t miss next time,” along with suggestions that the shooting might have been staged. She also appeared to offer justification for the attempted assassination. Following the backlash, Marsaw deleted the original posts and subsequently her entire Facebook account.

In response to the situation, Thompson released a statement to Fox News, saying,

“I was made aware of a post made by a staff member and she is no longer in my employment.”

This swift action came after widespread calls for the staffer’s dismissal. The Congressman also made a short post on X expressing his gratitude for the law enforcement”s “fast response to this incident.”

However, not everyone bought into it. This is because Bennie Thompson had recently proposed the DISGRACED Act, which is a bill that could remove Trump’s Secret Service detail if the latter is sentenced to prison for his involvement in the Capitol riots.

The assassination attempt itself resulted in at least one fatality and two critical injuries among rally attendees. The victim was identified as Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old firefighter.
